Givenchy Haute Couture Collection Fall/Winter 2011

Riccardo Tisci is hands down one of the greatest couturiers to have ever walked this soil. As a dedicated appreciator his work almost never ceases to amaze me, this collection included.
Tisci's Fall/Winter Haute Couture collection is comprised of 10 looks which include floor sweeping gowns embraced by opulent embellishments, lace, crystals, sheer fabrics, and tulle paillettes. Abandoning his typical dark approach he sums up the focus for this collection as "Purity, lightness, fragility" and by the looks of it, mission accomplished. Bravo, Tisci.

Its my favourite time of the year again, J.Crew has released its Spring 2011 Lookbook. Ive already expressed my undying love for J. Crew's reasonably priced and sumptuous collections countless times. The look books are always stellar and styled to a t, which solidifies my undying love for this brand even more. The juxtaposition of textures and colours is divine, the silhouettes are splendid, and it embodies the classic working women who just isnt so classic after all. I can already see myself chasing after a chic woman heading to her office wearing anything from this collection shouting "Dahling, Duh-linggg" in the name of June Ambrose. Season after season I have to keep giving Jenna Lyons a boisterous round of applause for reinventing classics and bringing this classic Americana brand back to life.

PS: Oh J.Crew/Jenna Lyons & Co./Fashion Gods , why wont you open a J.Crew store so that us Canuck feens can get our quick fix without waiting an eternity and a half for online deliveries. Sincerely, me.

Newcomer designer Maki has been creating a buzz in the industry and around the web since her debut Autumn/Winter 2010 "Everything in proportion" Collection premiered. Known for her textured graphic pieces, African style clothing and clever silhouettes, she is the designer to watch for during the next upcoming seasons. She has carefully fused traditional African garb with couture and has created a masterpiece of a love child. To add the cherry on the cake, her designs are created ethically in her label's home base Nigeria.

I thoroughly enjoy conceptual designs with marvelling detailing, you can add me to the roster of her crusaders.

As the rest of the country prepares for the upcoming winter time and the festivities that come along with the season, I on the other hand, am apprehensively awaiting for Spring to arrive. Its the perfect time (along with Fall) to break out a light coat or pair your favourite dress with some tights and ~~head~~ skip out the door instead of all the constrains winter brings. Its peculiar how much I was looking forward to Fall during the ridiculously hot days of summer only to regret it once Fall reached its end and Winter reared its ugly head.

Here's an editorial styled by Kate Lanphear for ELLE US December 2010 to get myself, and anyone else who lives in a region that feels like the Arctic circle, through the winter.

In all honesty you must give J.Cole a listen, even just once. Thats all you'll need to realize what a lyrical, dynamic and honest ARTIST this young man is. Even if you're not too keen on this particular genre of music he might just bring something new to the table and win you over. He's got a bright future and Im here to watch for the long run. Give it a shot, thank me later. As for me, I'll be seeing him perform live for the first time in December and I havent been this excited about anything in a very long time.

Over the last few years Solange Knowles has evolved from being an illustrious musicians' younger sister to a free spirit that marches to the beat of her own creative drum. After hacking off her hair over a year ago, which she received quite a lot of ignominy for, it seems like she has now gained a sense of self she previously did not possess and has finally found her niche. I absolutely enjoy her vintage inspired, high end/low end, 70's feel style. The African prints, intricatly wrapped turbans, makeup detailing, and voluminous afro she sports are just the icing on top of the cake. She is refreshing amongst the "edginess" that has plagued most of the industry.

Dear Readers,

Please forgive my sporadic posting, I've been immensely busy undertaking a heavy load of homework combined with working. Keeping update with the latest in fashion has been on the back burner on my list of priorities. However I promise to start posting on a more consistent basis, I feel terrible for neglecting my blog. Although its minuscule I still feel an obligation to updating it frequently and will be doing so from now on. Lets begin.

Behold, the stunning new campaign for Giorgio Armani FW 2010. Since I find the summer weather intolerable I am psyched for the Fall season to begin. This campaign incarnates a few reasons for my excitement; the textures, the colour palettes, layering, and the fact that deep red lipstick seems much more suitable in cooler weather. The end of summer might be a sad demise to a few months of freedom but it presents an opportunity to get excited again when getting up in the morning and pulling on your cable knit tights and layering without discomfort. At least on my part.

Quiana Grant first caught my eye when I spotted her in a Maybelline ad a few years back. She is absolutely beautiful with a million dollar smile, gorgeous pouty lips, and glowing skin to match.
